dry lakes

Evaporated desert basins

Dry lakes are lake beds that contain water only occasionally or seasonally, remaining parched most of the time.

Common in desert regions, they form flat, often cracked surfaces of dried mud or salt deposits.

The term appears frequently in geographic names: Dry Lake, Rogers Dry Lake.

Also called playas or salt flats depending on their composition.
