dropping anchor
Halting at sea
Dropping anchor is the act of lowering a ship's anchor to secure it in place, preventing drift.
The phrase extends to settling down or stopping somewhere after travel: After years of moving around, they finally dropped anchor in Portland.
It can also mean arriving and making oneself comfortable, sometimes with connotations of staying longer than welcome.
