defusion

Removing explosive trigger

Defusion is a technique from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) for creating psychological distance from difficult thoughts.

Rather than fighting or believing thoughts automatically, defusion treats them as mental events to observe: I'm having the thought that I'm worthless instead of I'm worthless.

The goal isn't to change thought content but to reduce its grip on behavior.
