drop ball
Soccer neutral restart
A drop ball is a method of restarting play in soccer when the referee stops the game for reasons other than a foul—typically an injury or equipment issue.
The referee drops the ball to a player of one team, with opponents required to stay a set distance away until it's touched.
The term also appears in other sports with similar restart procedures.
