flood irrigation
Crop field inundation
Flood irrigation is a method of watering crops by releasing water onto fields and allowing it to spread across the surface.
The oldest and simplest form of irrigation, it relies on gravity rather than pumps or sprinklers: The farm still uses flood irrigation from the nearby canal.
Though less efficient than drip or sprinkler systems, it remains common where water is abundant and cheap.
