double-mindedness
Two conflicting intentions
Double-mindedness is the state of being torn between two opposing intentions or loyalties—wanting incompatible things at once.
The term comes from religious contexts, where it describes wavering between faith and doubt, spiritual and worldly concerns: A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.
More broadly, it suggests internal conflict that prevents decisive action.
