double-booking

Two simultaneous commitments

Double-booking is scheduling two conflicting appointments or commitments for the same time slot.

The term applies to personal calendars I double-booked myself and had to cancel lunch and to businesses that overcommit resources: airlines double-book seats expecting some passengers won't show, hotels double-book rooms.

As a verb: The receptionist accidentally double-booked the conference room.
