dolly zoom

Background seems moving

A dolly zoom is a camera technique where the camera moves toward or away from a subject while simultaneously zooming in the opposite direction.

The subject stays the same size in frame while the background dramatically expands or compresses, creating a disorienting, vertigo-like effect.

Alfred Hitchcock famously used it in *Vertigo* to convey psychological disturbance; it's also called a Hitchcock zoom or zolly.
