diversity scholarship
Underrepresented student funding
A diversity scholarship is financial aid awarded to students from underrepresented groups—typically based on race, ethnicity, gender, disability, or socioeconomic background.
Universities and organizations offer these scholarships to increase representation in fields or institutions where certain populations have historically been excluded: She received a diversity scholarship to study engineering.
The term is sometimes used critically by those who view such programs as unfair preferential treatment.
