digital restoration
Reviving old media
Digital restoration is the process of repairing, enhancing, or reconstructing damaged or degraded media using computer technology.
Old photographs are cleaned of scratches and fading, film footage is stabilized and color-corrected, audio recordings have hiss and pops removed.
The goal is typically to approximate the original quality or the creator's intent: The studio released a digital restoration of the 1927 classic.
Digital restoration also applies to documents, artworks, and architectural records—anything that can be scanned, analyzed, and reconstructed pixel by pixel.
