dermatan sulfate
Connective tissue sugar
Dermatan sulfate is a glycosaminoglycan—a long chain of sugar molecules—found in skin, blood vessels, heart valves, and connective tissue throughout the body.
It plays roles in wound healing, blood clotting, and tissue structure.
Defects in its metabolism cause certain rare genetic disorders.
Also spelled dermatan sulphate.
