defunder

Strips financial support

A defunder is someone who advocates for or works toward removing or drastically reducing funding from an institution, especially police departments.

The term gained currency during the 2020 "defund the police" movement: Defunders argue that money should be redirected to social services.

Critics use it dismissively: The defunders want to abolish law enforcement entirely.
