death chant
Final vocal ritual
A death chant is a ritualized song or incantation performed in connection with dying—sung by or for someone approaching death, or as part of funeral rites.
Many Indigenous cultures have traditional death chants meant to guide the spirit or honor the departed.
The term also applies more loosely to any repetitive, ominous vocalization suggesting doom: The crowd's death chant grew louder as the villain appeared on screen.
