dead bodies

Lifeless physical forms

Dead bodies is the plural of dead body—corpses, the physical remains of humans or animals after death.

The phrase is somewhat redundant since a body alone often implies death: They found the body.

But dead bodies emphasizes the lifeless state or appears where body alone might be ambiguous: The battlefield was strewn with dead bodies.
