cutdown

Making it smaller

A cutdown is a reduction or decrease, especially one imposed deliberately: budget cutdowns, staff cutdowns.

In medicine, a cutdown is a small incision to expose a vein for inserting a catheter when standard access fails.

As an adjective, cutdown describes something reduced in size or modified: a cutdown shotgun, a cutdown version of the software.
