curly parsley
Frilly green garnish
Curly parsley is a variety of parsley with tightly ruffled, crinkled leaves, distinguished from the flat-leaved Italian variety.
Long the default garnish on American restaurant plates, it fell out of culinary fashion as flat-leaf parsley gained favor for its stronger flavor.
The curly type is now often dismissed as merely decorative: Nobody actually eats the curly parsley.
