cumulus clouds
Puffy white formations
Cumulus clouds are the puffy, white clouds with flat bases and rounded tops that form on fair-weather days.
They develop from rising columns of warm air and often resemble cotton balls or cauliflower heads.
When cumulus clouds grow tall and dark, they can develop into cumulonimbus—the towering thunderstorm clouds that bring heavy rain and lightning.
