silver iodide

Precipitates artificial rain

Silver iodide is a yellow crystalline compound used to seed clouds for artificial rainmaking.

When dispersed into clouds, its crystal structure mimics ice, encouraging water droplets to form around it and fall as precipitation.

It also has applications in photography and medicine: The planes released silver iodide over the drought-stricken region.
