cubbing

Training young hounds

Cubbing is the practice of hunting fox cubs, traditionally conducted in autumn to train young hounds before the formal foxhunting season.

The term also applies to the activity of raising or caring for young animals, particularly in wildlife contexts: The zoo's cubbing program has successfully bred several endangered species.
