ctrl f

Text search shortcut

Ctrl+F is the keyboard shortcut that opens a search function in most software, letting you find specific text within a document, webpage, or file.

The command has become so ubiquitous that it's used as a verb: I ctrl-f'd the PDF but couldn't find any mention of the deadline.

Figuratively, to ctrl-f something is to scan quickly for specific information rather than reading thoroughly.
