cross-cultural identity
Between two worlds
Cross-cultural identity describes a sense of self shaped by belonging to multiple cultures simultaneously.
Someone with cross-cultural identity may have parents from different backgrounds, have grown up in a country different from their heritage, or have lived extensively across cultures: As a Korean adoptee raised in Minnesota, she's always navigating her cross-cultural identity.
The term acknowledges that identity isn't confined to a single cultural framework but emerges from the intersection of several.
