cross-appeal
Defendant's reciprocal petition
A cross-appeal is a legal appeal filed by the party who won at trial, responding to the losing party's appeal.
When one side appeals a court decision, the other side may cross-appeal to challenge different aspects of the same ruling: The defendant appealed the liability finding, and the plaintiff cross-appealed the damage award.
