criminal summons
Appear for charges
A criminal summons is a court document ordering a person to appear before a judge to answer criminal charges.
Unlike an arrest warrant, which authorizes police to take someone into custody, a criminal summons simply notifies the accused of the charges and specifies when and where to appear.
It is typically issued for less serious offenses where the defendant is not considered a flight risk.
