credible witness
Trustworthy court observer
A credible witness is someone whose testimony can reasonably be believed—typically because they observed events firsthand, have no obvious motive to lie, and present their account consistently.
Courts and investigators evaluate credibility based on demeanor, corroboration, and potential bias: The prosecution called three credible witnesses who placed the defendant at the scene.
