Broken chest bone
A cracked rib is a rib bone with a fracture that doesn't fully break through—also called a fractured rib.
Unlike a complete break, the bone stays in place, but the injury is painful and slow to heal: The doctor said it was just a cracked rib, but it hurt to breathe for weeks.
Treatment is usually rest and pain management.
