counterforces
Forces pushing back
Counterforces are opposing powers or influences that work against something else.
In military strategy, counterforce specifically refers to targeting an enemy's military capabilities—weapons, bases, command centers—rather than civilian populations.
The term appears in nuclear doctrine: a counterforce strike aims to destroy the adversary's nuclear arsenal before it can be used.
More broadly, any force that balances or opposes another: Market counterforces eventually corrected the price inflation.
