conversate

Have a discussion

Conversate is a nonstandard verb meaning to have a conversation, formed by back-formation from conversation.

Though widely used in informal speech, particularly in African American Vernacular English, it draws criticism from prescriptivists who consider converse the proper verb.

We were just conversating about the game last night.

Despite the criticism, conversate continues to thrive in casual contexts where converse might sound overly formal.
