controlled release
Gradual dose delivery
Controlled release describes the gradual, regulated delivery of a substance over time rather than all at once.
Most often applied to medications designed to maintain steady levels in the body: controlled-release tablets, a controlled-release formulation.
The term also appears in agriculture for fertilizers that dissolve slowly, and in manufacturing for products that emit fragrance or chemicals at a measured rate.
