conceptual artist
Thought-over-craft practitioner
A conceptual artist is someone who makes art where the idea matters more than the finished object.
The concept drives the work—execution is secondary or even delegated to others.
Conceptual artists emerged in the 1960s as a challenge to traditional craft-based art: Sol LeWitt was a pioneering conceptual artist whose wall drawings could be recreated by anyone following his instructions.
