A companion pass is an airline benefit allowing a designated person to fly free or at reduced cost whenever the primary traveler books a flight.
Most associated with Southwest Airlines, where frequent flyers or credit card holders earn the pass after meeting spending thresholds: I hit the companion pass in March, so my wife flies free all year.
The companion must be named in advance and typically can't be changed frequently.
