comp time
Hours owed back
Comp time is time off from work given in place of overtime pay.
An employee who works extra hours accumulates comp time to use later rather than receiving additional wages: I banked enough comp time to take Friday off.
Short for compensatory time.
The practice is common in government jobs but restricted in the private sector.
