coming off

Separating from something

Coming off describes the process of emerging from a state or experience.

You come off a medication by gradually stopping it: I'm coming off antidepressants.

You come off a victory or defeat by having just experienced it: They're coming off three straight losses.

To ask how something came off is to ask how it went: How did the interview come off?

When someone comes off a certain way, that's how they're perceived: He comes off as arrogant, but he's actually shy.
