comebacker
Ball hit back
A comebacker is a batted ball hit sharply back toward the pitcher—a line drive or hard grounder up the middle that the pitcher must field.
The term appears almost exclusively in baseball contexts: He snagged the comebacker and threw to first for the out.
Comebackers can be dangerous, giving pitchers little time to react.
