cold readings
Sight-reading for actors
Cold readings are performances in which a psychic, mentalist, or fortune teller appears to know personal details about a stranger without prior information.
The technique relies on reading body language, making high-probability guesses, and interpreting reactions to refine statements.
The medium's cold readings convinced grieving families she could contact the dead.
In a different sense, cold readings occur when actors perform scripts they haven't rehearsed or seen before.
