cocoa bean
Source of chocolate
A cocoa bean is the dried and fermented seed of the cacao tree, native to Central and South America, from which chocolate and cocoa products are made.
The beans grow inside large pods on the tree's trunk and branches, with each pod containing thirty to fifty seeds surrounded by sweet pulp.
After harvesting, the beans undergo fermentation and drying to develop the complex flavors essential to chocolate production.
The factory sources its cocoa beans from West African farms.
