cloudbusting

Forcing weather changes

Cloudbusting is an attempt to produce rain by seeding clouds or other manipulation of atmospheric conditions.

The term gained wider recognition through Kate Bush's 1985 song about Wilhelm Reich, who claimed his "cloudbuster" device could influence weather.

Outside meteorology, cloudbusting suggests any ambitious effort to control the uncontrollable: Their marketing strategy felt like cloudbusting—hopeful but improbable.
