Clipper guards are plastic attachments that snap onto electric hair clippers to control cutting length.
Each guard holds the blades at a fixed distance from the scalp—the higher the number, the longer the hair left behind.
A #1 guard leaves about an eighth of an inch; a #8 leaves about an inch.
I usually get a 3 on the sides and scissors on top.
