classic animation
Traditional cel artistry
Classic animation refers to traditional hand-drawn animation techniques, particularly the style developed by Disney and other major studios from the 1930s through the 1990s.
The term distinguishes cel animation and its aesthetic—fluid movement, detailed backgrounds, musical numbers—from computer-generated or limited animation: I prefer classic animation to modern CGI.
It often carries nostalgic connotations, implying a golden age of the medium.
