circuit judges
Roving court officials
Circuit judges are judges who travel to different locations within a designated region to hold court sessions.
The term comes from the practice of "riding circuit"—making rounds through multiple jurisdictions rather than presiding in a single courthouse.
In the U.S. federal system, circuit judges serve on the Courts of Appeals, one level below the Supreme Court.
The circuit judge heard cases in three counties.
