churr

Grasshopper's low hum

Churr is the low, vibrating call made by certain birds, especially nightjars and partridges—a continuous trilling or whirring sound.

The word imitates the noise itself.

As a verb, to churr is to make this sound: Nightjars churr in the darkness.

In New Zealand slang, churr (or chur) is an informal expression of thanks or approval, similar to cheers: Churr, bro.
