chink

Narrow defensive breach

Chink has two distinct origins.

One means a narrow opening or crack: Light came through a chink in the curtains.

A chink in someone's armor is a vulnerability.

The other chink is an imitative word for a light, sharp sound, like coins or glasses clinking together: the chink of ice in a glass.

Separately, Chink is an offensive slur for a Chinese person or someone of East Asian descent.
