chink in the armour

Exploitable weak spot

A chink in the armour is a weakness or vulnerable point in something otherwise strong or well-defended.

The phrase comes from gaps between plates of medieval armor where a blade could penetrate.

Now used figuratively: His calm demeanor was impenetrable, but she finally found a chink in the armour when she mentioned his ex-wife.
