checked luggage
Bags below deck
Checked luggage is baggage you hand over to an airline at the airport counter rather than carrying onto the plane yourself.
It travels in the cargo hold and is retrieved at baggage claim after landing: My checked luggage was lost on the connecting flight.
Airlines typically charge fees for checked luggage and impose weight limits.
