center cap
Hub's decorative cover
A center cap is the decorative cover that fits over the hub of a wheel, concealing the lug nuts and axle.
Most are plastic or metal discs bearing the vehicle manufacturer's logo.
They serve no structural purpose but give wheels a finished appearance: One of my center caps fell off on the highway.
