catchweight

Weight class waived

Catchweight describes a contest, especially in boxing or wrestling, where competitors agree to fight without a standard weight class restriction.

When fighters can't meet official division limits, they negotiate a catchweight—a mutually acceptable number between classes: The bout was set at a catchweight of 157 pounds.

The term also applies to the agreed-upon weight itself.
