Cat-calling is shouting sexually suggestive or harassing comments at someone in a public place, typically directed by men at women passing on the street: She couldn't walk to work without enduring cat-calling from construction workers.
The term evokes the attention-getting calls used to summon cats.
Despite its playful name, cat-calling is widely considered a form of street harassment.
