cassias

Senna-yielding shrubs

Cassias is the plural of cassia, a genus of tropical plants that includes trees and shrubs yielding medicinal bark and leaves.

Some cassias produce senna, a natural laxative.

The bark of certain species resembles cinnamon and is sometimes sold as a cheaper substitute: The spice rack contained cassias rather than true cinnamon.

Cassia is also a woman's given name.
