carpetgrass

Creeping tropical groundcover

Carpetgrass is a creeping grass native to the Americas, grown for lawns and pastures in warm, moist climates.

It spreads by stolons to form a dense, low mat—hence the name.

The grass tolerates shade and poor soil but doesn't handle drought or heavy traffic well: The backyard was solid carpetgrass where nothing else would grow.
