carbohydrate loading
Pre-race fuel strategy
Carbohydrate loading is an athletic strategy of eating large amounts of starches and sugars in the days before an endurance event.
The goal is to maximize glycogen stores in muscles, providing fuel for prolonged exertion: Marathon runners typically begin carb loading three days before the race.
Often shortened to carb loading.
