camel hair

Luxury coat material

Camel hair is the soft, fine undercoat of camels, used to make textiles.

The resulting fabric is lightweight, warm, and typically tan or beige—the natural color of camel hair gives us the shade called camel.

Camel hair coats and brushes are prized for their quality: a camel hair blazer, camel hair paintbrushes.

Also spelled camelhair.
